THE BEST CHAPTERS INTRO
________________________________________________________________________________________

Before I introduce the best chapters, let me tell a brief about Buddha.

Traditional Buddhists worship the Lord Buddha. As a matter of fact, Buddha never proclaimed himself to be God. He was only a great teacher who pointed out to human beings the way to liberation from their suffering.

He was born of King Suddhodana of Kapilavastu in India and his Queen Maya Devi about 2600 years ago. When he was born, prophets predicted that he would become either a Buddha or a Universal ruler.

King Suddhodana wanted his son Siddhartha Gautama to be King of Kings. Accordingly, he surrounded his son with worldly luxuries so that the prince would not turn to religion. For instance, he had three palaces built his son, one for each season.

When Prince Siddhartha came of age, he was married to Yasodhara Devi who was one of his cousins. With the passage of time, they got a son name Rahula.

One day, while a visit to the Royal Garden, Prince Siddhartha witnessed four great omens namely an old man, a sick man, a dead man and a monk. He was filled with great weariness as he realized the impermanent nature of life. This led him to the great renunciation. He renounced his princely position, family and worldly possessions in search of truth.

He spent six years in the forest mostly by himself practising austerities. At the end of this period, he discovered the four noble truths and attained Buddha hood while sitting in meditation under a Bo (Bodhi) tree on the full moon day of the month of Kason.
